The
typologies of urban void, such as accumulation, evacuation and
infrastructure suggest three different scales of intervention.
The proposal focuses on the rehabilitation of the urban void through
the different scales and the aspect of time.

A
bottom up intervention strategy is proposed instead of top-down
strategy suggested by the private investments. This results in an
activation of the self-organizational dynamics of the urban life
focusing at the transformation of the urban voids into urban
living rooms through the insertion of greenery and the
rehabilitation of abandoned shells.

A
comment on the big scale urban interventions by means of exploring
the dynamics of the local. The observation of the city fabric reveals
a number of communities/actors which develop and coexist in quasi
parallel networks. The main aspiration is to promote symbiotic
conditions amongst the aforementioned actors.

Temporary archaeology of Larisa Station/Time in Between

The
time interval amid the present condition of the station area and its
planned future expansion, is treated as a niche between the present
and future states, suitable to host the proposed scheme. Pieces of
derelict infrastructure on the grounds of the station complex can be
thought of as archeological / excavation site findings. The narration
reinterpreting the spatial, as well as the material fragments
provides the uniting thread and the binding forces which constitute
the body of fragments.

The
reinforcement of public life is achieved through

The reinforcement of the commercial activity, such as immigrants’
local commerce already settled at Ipeirou and Ioulianou streets.

The exploration of the possibilities emerging from the formation of a
cultural corridor connecting Omonoia sq., Ippeios Kolonos hill,
Karaiskaki sq. and Pantazopoulou sq.
c.
The re-activation of the urban voids (open bazaars, cultural events,
temporary settlement).

Landscape
Formation of the wider Central Railroad Station

The
site is treated as a point receiving the tensions from the nodes that
interconnect through it, such as the port (Piraeus), Patra, Larissa
and Omonoia, stressing the importance of it functioning as an
exchange node.A model is constructed on the site using materials
found in the site, representing the tensions between nodes and the
centrality of Larissis station.
